Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Civil Service Commissioners.

Our Annual Report for 2007/08 was published on 15 July. The report covers our activities during the year in upholding the fundamental principle that selection for appointment to the Civil Service must be on merit on the basis of fair and open competition.  We also report on our work in promoting the core values of the Civil Service, as set out in the Civil Service Code.

Two new Civil Service Commissioners have recently been appointed. At a Privy Council meeting on 9 July Her Majesty the Queen appointed Professor Christine Hallett and Sir Neil McIntosh as Commissioners. Please see our press release for biographical details of the new Commissioners.

There are now 16 of us, we are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, and between us have extensive experience of management and leadership in the private, public and voluntary sectors. We are appointed by the Crown and independent of Government.

Here you will find out more about who we are and what we do. We have a short video  which introduces us and our role. It is about three minutes long and we hope that you will find it an interesting introduction to our work.

We would be very pleased to hear any comments you have about our work or this website.
